Window gazing in Dubai Mall

Window gazing in Dubai Mall

A two day stopover to see family in Dubai on my way back from Italy included a dinner out one night at 'The Dubai Mall', the biggest and most prestigious shopping destination in the world. Love it or not, Dubai is without a doubt, a city where opulence and extravagance is the 'norm'. The Dubai Mall is one of many examples of this.  With over 1200 retail stores and 200 food outlets, all of the most luxurious brands in the world can be found here.  Along with that comes some of the biggest budgets allocated for retail design and visual merchandising, in the hope to impress some of the worlds wealthiest customers.

I spent a couple of relaxed hours window gazing, observing the styling and creativity on display. I thought to share some of my favourites!  Most of them turned out to be kids shops, they were much less serious.

One thing I am a believer of, and this experience for me confirmed it, is that although money can be very helpful at times, a small amount of money and few material resources used, can still result in a beautiful and lasting impression!

FENDI KIDS     I thought these paper oragami foxes next to balls of coloured twine - all in bright autumn colours were really lovely.  A crafty and playful touch to Fendi Kids new Autumn/Winter collection.

BONPOINT KIDS Real autumn leaves with varying painted tribal patterns on them sat beautifully next to woolen hand-felted mushrooms.  A soft, warm and natural touch to compliment their Autumn/Winter collection which hung on tree branches above.

DOLCE & GABBANA Two large bright, fruity fabric, umbrella halves framed the scene for Dolce & Gabbana's late summer collection of clothes and accessories creating a bold, feminine and sophisticated impression.

CHICCO Chicco's summer shoe display was supported by simple yet cute hand-drawn art depicting a spring/summer garden scene.  The material used was thick butchers-type paper in panels.  Coloured pots of fake flowers also enlivened the scene.

CHATEAU DE SABLE A yellow rubber duck theme depicting a bathroom scene with raindrops was bright and eye-catching.   The colour combination of yellow and grey allowed for a gender-neutral display of their Autumn/Winter raincoats and gumboots.

RALPH LAUREN KIDS Stripes, cheques, and hedged plants set the scene for this cute, posh outdoor tea-party themed display.      NB.  The bow tie with shorts look on the left, reminded me of a little boy I saw dressed similar at a wedding in Italy where he wore a bow tie (without the jacket), together with shorts and sneaker boots.  Very cute, quirky look for a little boy!

For those of you who ever think to visit the Dubai Mall one day for the first time...I just thought to sign off with one bit of useful information..

Take note of where the cab rank is FIRST!

You will be very glad you did.
